John Wayne Walking Away ist ein Country-Song aus der Feder von Austin Cunningham, Jerry Boonstra und Doak Snead. Gesungen wurde der Song von Lari White. Dieser wurde auf Grund des Erfolges des Albums Stepping Stone aus dem Jahre 1999 auch als Single-CD von Lyric Street Records veröffentlicht. Produzent des Albums und des Liedes war Dann Huff.
Ursprünglich wollte der Produzent, dass dieses Lied von einem anderen Künstler gesungen wird. Der Song wurde auch von diesem eingesungen, aber der Song wurde schließlich doch noch von Lari White eingesungen und dann schließlich veröffentlicht.

Der Song ist sowohl eine Hommage John Wayne, als auch die Darstellung einer Trennung in der man aufrecht wie John Wayne von dannen in Richtung Sonne reitet.
