Mickey's Son and Daughter

Mickey's Son and Daughter ist ein Lied von den Liedermachern Eddie Lisbona und Tommy Connor, welches 1935 als vierseitiges Notenblatt bei Irwin Dash Music Co Ltd. erschien. Die Melodie wurde nach demselben musikalischen Motiv gestaltet, an dem sich auch der Kinderreim „Girls and Boys Come Out To Play“ orientierte. Einige Orchester, darunter das Scottish Symphony Orchestra, nahmen es 1935 in ihre Weihnachtskonzertprogramme auf, was in der Presse zu Beschwerden führte, denn klassische Orchester sollten nicht diese Art Musik spielen.

In dem Lied wird die Geburt von Mickys Kindern gefeiert, einem Zwillingspaar, bestehend aus einem Jungen und einem Mädchen.

Es gibt Interpretationen des Liedes von Jack Payne, Lew Stone, Roy Fox, Jack Jackson und Jay Wilbur.

Die erste Interpretation des Liedes war 1935 vom BBC Dance Orchestra unter dem Dirigenten Henry Hall und mit Gesang von Dan Donovan. Diese Fassung fiel durch zusätzliche Strophen auf, in denen das Kinderpaar beinahe entführt wird. Das Lied hatte ein langes Nachleben durch zwei weitere Coverversionen, eine davon 1967 von der Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, eine weitere 1997 von der Band De Nieuwe Snaar, die das Lied im Medley „De solo (Mickey's son and Daughter / Chasin' Rainbows)“ verarbeiteten.

Obwohl der Liedtext Micky Maus, Pluto und (je nach Fassung) Klarabella Kuh, die Schildkröte und der Hase sowie Donald Duck namentlich erwähnt, wird Minnie nicht genannt. Um wen es sich bei Missus Mickey Mouse handelt, bleibt in allen Fassungen offen, die Cover-Abbildung zeigt aber Minnie neben der Wiege. Einer der Hochzeitsgäste in der Henry-Hall-Fassung, Henry Horse, hatte ein berüchtigtes Nachleben. Das Beatles-Lied „Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!“ (1967) wurde nicht von der BBC gespielt, da die Wortfolge „Henry the Horse“ zwei Synonyme für Heroin beinhalte.

Viele der später durch die Disney-Studios festgelegten Rahmenbedingungen finden sich nicht im Lied. Pluto wird zum Beispiel als Freund Mickys dargestellt, der Geschenke macht und singt, anstelle von seiner sonstigen Rolle als Mickys Hund. Eine Ehe zwischen Micky und Minnie war nur Thema des Cartoons „Mickys Alptraum“ (Mickey´s Nightmare, 1932).

Liedtext

Die Textfassungen des Liedes unterscheiden sich ziemlich stark. Zum Beispiel gibt es starke Unterschiede zwischen dem Notenblatt mit dem Text von Eddie Lisbona und Tommie Connor, der Inszenierung vom BBC Dance Orchester unter der Leitung von Henry Hall und der Inszenierung der Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. Die Version von Henry Hall übernahm nur die erste Hälfte des Notenblatts und erfand ein ganz neues Ende. Der Text der Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band-Fassung ist der kürzeste und änderte einige Wörter, zum Beispiel Plutos Geschenk von einem Gorgonzola zu einem goldenen Dollar.

Neil Inness nannte das Lied in einem Interview „The Kidnapping of Mickey's Son and Daughter“, womit er vermutlich die Liedfassung von Henry Hall meint.
